Translating your site

Add languages: TOWeb translates the whole site and keeps it up to date with every change.

How it works

You write your site in its main language. For each language you add, TOWeb translates the whole site with AI (pages, menus, products, posts) and updates the translations as soon as you change a text. There is nothing to proofread or keep track of.

The texts TOWeb writes itself (cart, checkout, order emails…) are already translated: the AI only handles your own texts.

Adding a language

  1. Open Settings › Languages.
  2. Under Add a language, choose the language you want.
  3. Click Translate now. Progress is shown language by language.
  4. Open the Preview: your site now exists in the new language.

Afterwards, Check translations retranslates whatever has changed.

You need a local AI or your own key

Translation uses the AI installed on your computer (Ollama) or your own key. Set it up in TOWeb Settings › AI: see Writing with AI.

Where visitors switch language

Under Where visitors switch language, choose In the header (the most common), In the footer, Floating badge or Nowhere. You can add a flag next to each language, and Send visitors to their own language: on their first visit, they land directly on the home page in their browser’s language.

Addresses

The main language stays at the root of your site, each other language has its own folder: for example /de/ for German. Each page tells search engines about its versions in the other languages.

Your edition

Anyone can add languages, translate and see the result in the preview. Publishing additional languages is part of the paid editions, with a number of languages that depends on the edition. Without it, the published site carries only its main language; the Languages screen tells you so.

Correcting a translation

To touch up a sentence by hand, open Settings › Languages and click Open the translation file (.po) on the language’s line. The file opens in your translation editor (Poedit, which is free, or a text editor). Your correction applies the next time the preview or the site is generated, and TOWeb keeps it in later translations, as long as the original text does not change. Leave the numbered markers in square brackets as they are.
