Import your site
From your computer, another folder or a .wga backup: the import, step by step.
Before you start
- TOWeb 15 installed: the free Standard edition is enough to import, edit and preview your sites, and to publish one of them, within its limits (50 MB per site, TOWeb credit).
- Your TOWeb 5 to 14 site, on this computer, or its .wga backup.
- A site created with TOWeb 4 or earlier: first open it once in TOWeb 5 to 14, which converts it to the right format, then import it.
1. Choose the site
It’s on this computer
On first launch, TOWeb 15 looks for your sites in Documents › TOWeb Sites and lists them with their version, date and number of pages. Click Import next to the site you want.
Later on, the Import a TOWeb 5 to 14 website… button on the home screen opens the same list. A site you have already imported is marked Already imported.
It’s stored somewhere else
Click Choose a website folder… and select the folder that contains the site.xml file.
You only have the backup
Drag the .wga file onto the window, or click Choose a backup…. TOWeb 5 to 14 creates this file when you back up your site: look for it in your Documents, on a USB stick or on a backup drive.
Protected backup
A password-protected backup is accepted: TOWeb asks you for the password, which is only used to read it and is not kept.
2. Let TOWeb do the work
The import unpacks the backup if needed, reads the site, creates the new site, brings over the images, then the pages and products. Allow from a few seconds to a minute depending on size. An import brings over up to 200 pages.
3. Read the report
At the end, the report appears: it tells you what was brought over and what has taken a new form. See Reading the import report.
Frequently asked questions
Is my TOWeb 14 site changed? No. The import reads the site’s files and creates a new TOWeb 15 site. Your original site and TOWeb 14 remain untouched.
Can I import the same site several times? Yes. Each import creates a separate site: you can start again from the original at any time.
