Reading the import report
What arrived, what took a new form, what wasn’t brought over: understanding the report and finding it again.
Three sections
The Import report first sums up the figures (pages, products and images brought over out of the total), then goes into detail, item by item:
- What arrived: what was brought over as is, for example your logo, your footer, your social networks, your shipping methods, your coupons or your bookings;
- What took a new form: what TOWeb 15 presents differently. A photo album becomes a gallery page, a portal becomes a page that presents its sections, your blog posts become posts in the TOWeb 15 blog, your old theme becomes a modern style matched to your site’s dominant colour;
- What was not carried over: what you’ll need to redo or check, with the reason and the block to use. For example: a form to redo with the Form block, a video to reinsert with the Video block, an online payment to reconnect in Shop › Payments.
Each line gives examples taken from your site, so you know where to look.
Choices made for your site
When a TOWeb 14 feature isn’t brought over, the report tells you why. Often it’s a practice the web has abandoned: a sign-up pop-up (which Google penalises on mobile), text reserved for phones (every TOWeb 15 page adapts to all screens on its own), a module from an outside service that would load without the visitor’s consent. When something is genuinely missing, the report announces it for an upcoming update.
TOWeb 14 fields and code
- The text fields (written %NOM% in TOWeb 14) become site variables: %SLOGAN% is written {{SLOGAN}} in your pages, and its value is changed in one single place, Settings › Advanced › Variables.
- PHP code fields are not carried over: TOWeb 15 pages are static pages, which do not run PHP. TOWeb removes them rather than letting their code show up in your pages, and the report names them.
- The header code of your site or pages is not carried over: TOWeb 15 already produces the tags that matter. If you still need it, copy it into the custom code of the page or site (Settings › Advanced). The same goes for a widget from another service that you want to keep.
Custom code online
Custom code is saved in every edition, but it only goes online from the Premium edition upwards.
Your data stays yours
- The order history remains available where it is, in your old site’s folder and on your hosting.
- The subscribers to your newsletter are exported to a CSV file. No one is re-subscribed without their consent.
- Protected pages stay protected, under the same password. If that password could not be read, the page is imported without being published: it never becomes public by accident.
Finding the report again
The report is saved with the site. To read it again later, open the Project screen: the Import report button is next to the Publishing section.
