What does TOWeb offer compared with a website built directly by an AI?

An AI can produce a very good-looking site very quickly. The hard part comes next: keeping it up to date for years. Every fix, every new page, every security hole goes back through the AI, site by site, with the risk of breaking what worked. TOWeb keeps your site in a structured framework and rebuilds all the code at every publish, the same way, every time. And you don’t have to choose: your AI assistant can drive TOWeb.

Updated on 3 November 2026. This page compares TOWeb with a website whose code is written directly by an AI assistant or tool.

What an AI does very well, and where it stops

For a first version, an AI is remarkable: in a few minutes it writes copy, picks colours and produces the code of a polished site. Its limits show when the site has to last.

  • Its working memory is limited: on a large site it cannot keep every page in mind at once, so it summarises what it has done and forgets part of it as the conversation goes on.
  • It answers slightly differently every time: two pages made a week apart never quite match.
  • It can be wrong with confidence, and nobody reviews the code it delivers.
  • Nothing changes unless you ask again: a new search engine rule or a security fix has to be requested site by site.

TOWeb is not against AI

In the Studio edition, your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini) drives TOWeb through its MCP server: you describe your project, and it creates the pages, copy, images, shop and translations while you watch, and you take over whenever you like. The other editions let you try it.

The AI no longer writes code you have to maintain: it fills in a site made of pages, sections, blocks and a style, and TOWeb turns it into code. You keep the speed of AI, and the site stays structured, consistent and maintained.

Thousands of pages rebuilt at once, with nothing forgotten

TOWeb doesn’t rewrite your site page by page: it rebuilds the whole site at every publish, from your content, following fixed rules. The menu, links between pages, translations, redirects from old addresses, sitemap and search engine data stay consistent across every page. Nothing is invented, nothing gets lost along the way, and the same content always produces the same site.

A measured example: the site you are reading has more than 1,200 pages in seven languages, including its blog and documentation. TOWeb rebuilds it entirely in under a minute on a recent Mac. An AI would have to reread and edit each of those pages, without being able to keep them all in memory.

Security: fixes that arrive with your next publish

A website written by an AI gets no fixes unless its owner thinks to ask: a flaw in a script, a form or a payment stays in place as long as nobody notices it.

TOWeb updates itself. At your next publish, the fixes are applied to the whole site, including the scripts that run on your hosting for forms, the shop and bookings. You do have to republish, one click per site, but you don’t need to know about the flaw or how to fix it.

Shop, bookings, forms: the server side is already written

An AI will happily design a shop. Payment, confirmation emails, invoices, VAT, stock and the back office then have to be written, secured and maintained. In TOWeb they are built in and updated with the software: variants, stock, shipping zones, discount codes, downloadable products, EU VAT, invoices, payment by Stripe, PayPal, bank transfer and the major European banks; bookings by time slot or by period; spam-protected forms; an online back office for orders, invoices, stock and bookings.

The shop is included in the e-Commerce and Studio editions, bookings from Premium up; the free Standard edition shows them as a demo.

Editable by anyone, without code or prompts

In TOWeb you type directly on the page, as in a word processor. An office assistant, a club volunteer or a client can change opening hours, add a product or publish a post without knowing how to code or how to write a prompt. The site’s style applies to everything they add: no page drifts from it.

Your site stays yours, with no subscription

TOWeb is software installed on Windows or Mac: you create, edit and preview your site even without an internet connection. The site stays on your computer, with an automatic backup after each publish, and orders and bookings stay on your hosting, with the host of your choice. The licence is a one-time purchase, and the Standard edition is free.

For professionals: many sites, one update

An agency or freelancer manages several client sites with the same tool and the same level of quality, and brings a new version to all of them by republishing. Sites built with TOWeb 5 to 14 can be imported, and their old addresses are redirected, so existing search rankings are kept.

When an AI on its own is enough

For a mock-up to show tomorrow, an event page that will only live for a week, or a project that a developer will maintain, a site written directly by an AI may be enough. As soon as the site has to last, be edited by someone who doesn’t code, sell or take bookings, TOWeb saves you from redoing everything by hand.

Frequently asked questions: TOWeb or a website built by an AI

Why use TOWeb if an AI can create my site?
Because building a site is the quick part; keeping it alive is what takes time. A TOWeb site is edited directly on the page, without code or prompts, and gets TOWeb’s improvements and fixes every time you republish. A site written by an AI remains frozen code, and every change sends it back to the AI or to a developer.
Can’t an AI maintain the site itself?
Only if you ask it to, every time, site by site. It cannot keep a whole large site in memory, and it may break one page while fixing another. TOWeb rebuilds the whole site at every publish following fixed rules: the result is the same every time.
Can I use my AI assistant with TOWeb?
Yes. Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini drive TOWeb through its MCP server: they create the pages, copy, images, shop and translations. It is complete in the Studio edition and can be tried in the others.
Does a TOWeb site get security fixes?
Yes. TOWeb updates itself, and your next publish applies the fixes to the whole site, server scripts included. You need to republish each site, in one click.
Do I need to know how to code to edit a TOWeb site?
No. You type directly on the page, as in a word processor, and publish in one click to the host of your choice.
Is TOWeb free?
The Standard edition is free, with no time limit. It shows a “Made with TOWeb” mention, publishes a single site, and the shop and bookings run as a demo. The Premium, e-Commerce and Studio editions are a one-time purchase, with no subscription.
