Rolled out from mid-June and completed at the end of July 2026, Free's personal web spaces now run on PHP 8.5 across all the servers of their platform, with secure HTTPS access (no longer insecure HTTP access or the obsolete PHP versions 4 or 5). Your site's address at Free also changes, with "pages-perso." added to its URL. If you have an email address of the form ID@free.fr and your website's URL was previously http://ID.free.fr, it now takes the form:
https://ID.pages-perso.free.fr
If you use Free personal pages, be sure to update this information in step 4 of your hosting configuration (CTRL+F8) as follows:
- select "https://" instead of "http://"
- add ".pages-perso" to your site's URL, which must therefore end with ".pages-perso.free.fr"
- then run a PHP support test from TOWeb 14 before confirming your changes.
If TOWeb 14's PHP test tells you that your Free hosting is not yet running version 8.5 (but still version 4 or 5 by default), you will need to add the following line to your site's .htaccess file:
php85 1
This line is added to the .htaccess file in TOWeb, from "Options > Errors & Rules".
Support for Free personal pages is provided only through Free's newsgroups (Free's support will not help you with this), and you can share your experience or problem with Free among TOWeb users on our TOWeb forum.
Whether you use Free personal pages or another host, moving to the latest PHP versions 8.4 or 8.5 is strongly recommended, notably for the security of your site and of your visitors, especially as these latest versions are also fully used and supported by TOWeb 14 (version 14.09 or later recommended) .
