Website not accessible or not running correctly

You've seen the congratulations screen of TOWeb indicating that all your website files were successfully transferred but you can't see it or the online result is not working as expected ? This page will help you to solve such issues.

TOWeb indicates a successful transfer of your website but you can't see it or access it from the internet

If you get the "congratulations" screen in TOWeb at the end of the transfer but can't see any result on the internet, this is probably due to one of the following reasons :
  1. If you are using a free web space or the one coming with your ISP connection, then go to your personal account to verify that your web pages are correctly activated
  2. Verify that the web address you entered doesn't have any typos. If this is the case, then open the Configuration Host wizard (CTRL+F8) and update it from the step 3/5.
  3. If you have your own .COM domain, your domain name may not be initialized yet in your host provider Domain Name Servers (DNS). Ask your host provider to this DNS issue or to explain you how to do configure from your account.
  4. Your host provider may require your website files to be transferred into a particular folder of their FTP server. Contact your host provider to verify if you need to publish it under a special folder and to get the name of this folder. Then open the Configuration Host wizard (CTRL+F8) and from the step 3/5 enter this folder name or select it from the "browse" button. Terminate the wizard to save this change and publish your website again.
  5. The transfer of your files may have been intercepted by security software activated on your machine. Verify your Windows Internet Firewall and any security options or software (like for instance Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm or Kaspersky ...) installed on your computer as well as those of your modem to authorize TOWeb to publish you website (file transfer protocol used by TOWeb is FTP on port 21).

The online version of your website has not changed or is not correctly displayed

Your web browser may continue to display old web pages previously visited and stored in its memory. Press the F5 key in your web browser in order to refresh the content of your web page. You might also want to clean up the temporary internet files and the history of web page you've visited now and then and restart your web browser to solve this type of problem.
And if you're still seing a different result online then press the SHIFT+F12 keys to rebuild all your website content and publish it again using the option "publish the entire site" to replace any damaged files on your web space.

The online shopping cart doesn't work

This problem may be due to internet security set too high on your computer and especially if you disabled the use of cookies on your web browser. If you have changed your internet security or if a security software has modified it for your, you may need to reset the security options to the default ones.
If you have your own ".COM" domain name and use an invisible ORT redirection to a free web space or to your ISP web space, this may cause problems with some web browsers (like for instance the Microsoft Internet Explorer) as they consider your domain and your web space like 2 different websites. Try to or use your shopping cart directly from your real website address instead of your domain name to see if it works and if it does, that means a domain redirection issue. To avoid such redirection issue we recommend the use of a host server with DNS (Domain Name Service) instead of an invisible domain name redirection. This way you will be able to setup your domain name correctly (or your host provider will do it for you) and this way you won't have any web browser problems regarding your shopping cart and no security issues too.

Why do I get a blank page after submitting an order form from my website?

If have a e-Commerce website and yourself or one of your visitor gets a blank just after to send the form of the order, this is either due an internet security level set too high on your computer or due to security software (firewall, Norton, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm,...) that is blocking the post of data on your website. To correct this you will need to set the internet security level to its default value or add your website as trusted by your internet security software.

I don't receive any order email from my e-commerce website, why?

If you obtain a blank page while ordering from your website then check the advice of the answer above. And if you can order from your website and everything is working except that you don't receive any order notification by email then check the following points:
  • verify your anti-spam filters. Not only the one of the email reader installed on your computer but also the one of your email provider as many of them offer this service (like Yahoo or AOL for example). As anti-spam filters follow their own rules to determine if an email is a spam by not only checking the sender's email address but also by analyzing the email content, such filters may have wrongly consider order emails as a spam and placed them in a spam folder. Therefore you need to verify that your order emails are not located in such a spam folder and if your anti-spam filter is configured to automatically delete any spam then disable it before to test again by sending a new fake order from your website to see if you receive it
  • if you checked all your anti-spam settings but still can't receive any email order then try to send a fake order not only from your computer but also from another computer (the one of your friend or relative for instance). If you receive the order when posted from another computer then the issue is local to your computer and probably due to the internet security level of your web browsers and you will need to restore the security level settings back to the default ones
  • Eventually if you have verified all previous advice but still encounter the issue, then contact us thru the TOWeb's support dialog to let us know the web address of your catalog

I don't receive by email the content of forms posted from my website, why that ?

Visit our form advice page to verify that you correctly created your form and check our advice.

The password protected pages can be accessed when they are online

  • if you are using the password protection then see the same answers and solutions as for the online shopping cart issues presented in the previous chapter
  • if you are using the .htaccess protection then check our solutions and advice about .htaccess files

Video and music files are not played on your website

This might a transfer issue and you may first check our web page related to the Problems & Solutions to publish your website as your Window firewall or any other internet security software installed on your computer may have blocked the transfer of some files from your computer to the Internet. If you carefully check this but still encounter an issue to play multimedia files from the online version of your website then
  • verify that the size of your website is not bigger than the one of your web space
  • contact your host provider to see if there are any particular limitations or issues on your web space like for instance a maximum size per file, a temporary maintenance issue or if multimedia files are not accepted on their servers
  • the files published to your web space may be corrupted. Then try to publish it again but using the option "publish the entire site" to delete and reupload everything.
If you are using some particular video format like for instance the WMF video file format of Microsoft this may require a special plugin to be played correctly and you web browser may not have it installed by default or may use another plugin that doesn't support the multimedia format you are using. In order to avoid such web browsers & plugins issues (quicktime, realplayer, ...) we recommend the use of standard format.
Eventually if the issue you is related to a music icon not displayed and a background music not played on your website then check the following points :
  • if you have bookmarked your website inside your web browser's favorites then delete your bookmark before to manually enter the main web address of your website and create your bookmark again
  • delete the temporary internet files and history of your web browser before to access your website

All the text content of your website is underlined

Such a problem may be due to the use of double underscored characters ( _ ) in your text. To underline a text you need to start and end your text with a double underscore as explained here. If your text doesn't have any missing double underscores and if this problem appears on every web pages of your website, then you are probably using the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser and an ActiveX component is required. Click on the message appearing on top of your web browser to install it and the underlining problem should disappear.
Note : Such a problem is due to the configuration of your computer but your visitors won't have it on their computer. If you have a friend or can use another computer you might do the test to verify this and also try with a different web browser, for instance to verify this point.

Local web pages not displayed correctly

To preview the web pages of your website TOWeb uses the web browser installed on your computer. If your web pages are not open in your web browser but in another program displaying source code lines instead this means that you currently don't have any web browser associated by default on your Windows system to preview HTM web pages. To fix this problem, open a Windows Explorer and from the menu “Tools\Folder options...” click on the tab named “File types” in the folder options dialog. Then select the HTML extension in the list and change the associated program to your web browser from the “Change” button.
