Advice to migrate from a TOWeb V1/V2/V3 website to TOWeb V4

The information in this page contain guidance for versions 1, 2 or 3 TOWeb users to adapt and better transition their website(s) to the new version 4 of TOWeb.

Remember to make a backup

The data backups of your sites (WGA file) created with TOWeb V1, V2 and V3 remain compatible with the new version 4 to allow you to continue your sites without having to redo them. However, once you open sites with TOWeb V4 you can not use them thereafter in a previous version of TOWeb. Also, before installing your new activation key to fully utilize TOWeb V4 and in order to prevent any problem of data loss that may occur on your computer (hard disk crash, virus, deletion of files, ...) and be able to restore everything back if necessary, we recommend that you first perform a backup of your websites with your previous version of TOWeb.

Site not already opened with TOWeb V4

At step "Start" in the list of sites is written in italic letter the names of your sites created with version 1, 2 or 3 TOWeb that has not yet been opened or converted by TOWeb V4. When opening a TOWeb V1, V2 or V3 website with V4 a migration confirmation you will prompted and you will also have the opportunity to make a local backup of your site data at that time.

Site created with TOWeb Personal edition

Your site will continue to operate as before. We recommend that you study the list of TOWeb V4 new features to take into account all new possibilities to improve your site.

Site created with TOWeb Professional edition

The new shopping cart management of TOWeb V4 now requires mandatory activation and use of e-commerce functions. If you were previously using a Professional Edition of TOWeb V1, V2 or V3 and you were using catalogs with prices and shopping cart then you need to use now, not a Professional Edition of TOWeb V4 but an e-Commerce TOWeb Edition (or to uncheck the use of the shopping cart of your catalogs) otherwise your shopping cart and orders will run in demo mode on your site.

Maximum number of items per order

With e-Commerce Edition TOWeb V4 you can now have up to 200 items in shopping cart of your e-commerce site by activating the i-service form for orders. If you do not use i-services then the maximum number of items per order on your site will be 15.
IMPORTANT: If you had a TOWeb V1, V2 or V3 website with a limit set to 15 items per order and you use the i-services on your site then this limit will automatically be upgraded to 50 items per order. If you want to change this value in the Settings > e-Commerce > Shopping cart settings > Options tab.

New texts

The management of the shopping cart and orders with TOWeb V4 can now come in 5 stages (ordering, customer contact, shipment mode, payment method, confirmation) and is much more complete than previous versions 1, 2 and 3 TOWeb. It is important to conduct a local preview of your site and perform tests of your website locally on your computer up to the payment step to check that everything matches your expectations and complete and/or update some new default text that may not suit you before to republish your site on the internet. To access the predefined texts and edit them click the "Translate TOWeb predefined texts" button located in the "Start > Language" screen and then select the "Shopping cart" tab (if your site is multilingual, you will do the same for each of the other languages).
A new "Contact" information, available and accessible at the "Settings > e-Commerce > Your company", allows you to enter your contact details (email, phone, fax, cellphone, ...) and/or a brief message for customers who wish to contact you. This new text is displayed at the bottom of the printable order forms for your site and can be displayed directly in the pages of your shopping cart (such as in payment instruction for instance) through the use of field name [Saisissez ici vos coordonnées de contact: téléphone, portable, email, ...]. By default the new text contains a message example. It should therefore be replaced with your contact details or to delete it so it not ends up displayed in your orders.

Shipments and shipping prices

All your old ways of delivery and their pricing rules will be recovered in TOWeb V4 but under only one new delivery method named "Delivery" that you would have to readjust and/or rename according to the new structure and delivery zone methods. Also due to some new TOWeb V4 features shipping features (taxes & VAT, countries & states, ...) , we recommend you adjust your shipping costs from the screen Settings > e-Commerce > Shipments especially in relation to the following data which are not preserved:
  • if you were previously using shipping prices directly entered at your product level these are not retained and therefore will alter the total shipping costs of your orders. TOWeb will ask you if you want to add these shipping prices directly to your product prices, if you do not want that and press "no" you will need to review the shippings fees schedule. If you press "yes" then shipping prices will be directly added to your main product price (but not to subproducts prices)
  • if you were use additional shipping fees for a countries they will not be recovered and will now need to define specific shipping prices per delivery zones (countries & states)
  • if some products weight was used and set to 0 so that it does not apply to shipping these products will need be set as mark them Service.

Payments

If you previously used your own online payment script other than PayPal on your site and if this payment is now one of those supported by TOWeb (MoneyBookers, Ogone, OBC) then we recommend add and use the one coming with TOWeb. And if the your payment script developed and used in TOWeb V1, V2 or V3 is not among those offered by TOWeb V4 and does not work, then contact our technical support directly from the form of TOWeb.
Unlike previous versions of TOWeb where you could have not used customer form for some payments, the customer form is now mandatory during the order. If you used this option for the PayPal payment method you will now need to check the option "Upload customer information to PayPal" located in the "Details" tab so your customers name and address can also stored stored by PayPal without having to retype them.

Taxes & Prices

The main parameters of the VAT is recovered but not the ones you could possibly set for certain countries or certain shipments. The VAT management is now centralized in TOWeb V4 so we recommend you to use the VAT & taxes already predefined for all countries and eventually use them in your shipments.
The pricing in the catalogs can now be customized : size of the font, italic or bold style and color to best highlight your catalog prices (including former strikeout prices). Prices display can be changed from the "Font" and "Color" tab of the "Theme" step.
Finally the product information displayed in the pages of your catalogs will be slightly changed compared to TOWeb V1, V2 and V3 in particular because of the disappearance of the input field "Quantity" formerly located next to the add button in the catalog pages. If your visitors want to order a product in multiple copies they will now need to either click the button several times to add to cart or adjust the quantity while viewing the content of the shopping cart when they checkout their orders.

Stock and delivery delay/restocking

Unlike previous versions of TOWeb where you could indicate a quantity for an item in stock and simultaneously an availability status like "Available in X days", in the version 4 of TOWeb is only the product quantity in stock that determines its displayed status, which becomes a delivery delay/restocking status displayed when stock = 0. So whatever the status set for a product, it will not appear in the catalog if the quantity is not equal to 0 (zero). And if the amount is equal to 0 then the customer will see this status on your site. Whatever the status set to product your customers will be able to order them except if you choose the "Out of stock" status (no button "Add to cart" will be displayed for this product).
