What do I need to publish my website ? |
If you want the whole world to be able to see your Web pages, they have to be hosted on a computer permanently connected to the Internet (a web Host). As some Internet Service Providers (ISP) offers a web space on their server to their customers, you may verify with your ISP if this service is available to you (and activate it if required). Otherwise you should either get a free web host (see next question below) or rent a Web space from a company that may offer more services like for instance : the possibility to have your own Internet domain name "yourdomain.com", bigger disk space, etc. Whether the host is your ISP, a free Internet host or any other company, as a TOWeb customer, you are completely free with absolutely no server hosting restrictions (for example you don't even need to worry if the server platform is Windows or Linux / Unix or any other technical dependencies like this).
All you need is a web space on a host server that you can access using the username and the password that has been communicated to you, enter them into TOWeb and in one simple click on the Publish button your website will be published and available to everyone on the Internet. Where can I find a free host for my web pages ? |
| There are many companies offering free web space. Your Internet Service Provider might be one of them. But your choice depends on your needs. For example if you want to publish hundreds of pictures or videos, you might look for a host with a large disk space of 100 Mo for instance. On the opposite, if you plan to have just a couple of blogs with few pictures a 1 MB disk space would be sufficient. Verify and compare different hosting services to find the one that best first your need. Beware that some of the free Internet web hosts may add advertising banner into your web pages and may not authorize the publication of big files (like video or music for instance). How to notify my contacts with TOWeb ? |
You can notify your relatives, friends and colleagues whenever you want by sending them a message. We recommend doing it right after publishing your website to keep your contacts informed of your latest updates. In the Publish step, click on the *Notify your contacts* button. From there you can directly add contacts to your mailing list or import them from your Windows Address Book with the Import link button. Enter the text of your message and don't forget to communicate your website address before to click the button Notify everyone now !
Before you send your email we recommend the use of the BBC option if you don't want everyone to see each others email addresses or don't want one of your contacts to reply to everyone instead of just you.
There is 2 ways to send your message to :
- either directly from TOWeb with an email (recommended choice) and you will need to enter your email account information (name your SMTP server, email address, password)
- or thru the email software installed on your computer. If you encounter issues in notifying your contacts, please verify that the email software you are using is the one set by default on your computer and that you have default email account defined on it. For more information refer to the documentation of your email software.
Note: if you use the Mailing list i-Service then people subscribing on your site will be automatically added to your list of contacts and an unsubscribe link will automatically be added by TOWeb to the end of your messages. |

How to change the web address of my website ? |
| The web address of your website is called an internet domain name. If your web pages are hosted by a free host provider or by your ISP you can't change but need to purchase your .COM domain name from a professional host provider or registrar.
