How to fill out my paragraphs ? |
Each topic contains at least 1 paragraph. Depending on the information and your needs you may add as many paragraphs as needed. For each paragraph, you may decide to use:
- a title
- a text (with as many lines and sentences as necessary)
- a picture
- a link
- a list
- and a table
EXAMPLE : if you want to create a web page with a title, a picture, and a text then only one paragraph would be sufficient to do that. But if you want to add another picture in this page, you will need to add a new paragraph, add your picture into it, and so on. |

How to place a link in a topic ? |
First, select the topic's paragraph where you would like your link to be placed and, in the area named Add also to this paragraph…, select the option : A link. In the new link tab of this paragraph, you need to specify now the type of link you want to create.
If your link refers to :
- Another web site, type (or copy/paste) its web site address or select if from your list of Favorites web sites
- An e-mail address, type it directly or select it from your Windows Address book
- Another topic of your website, select which one from the list
Tips : If your link is an email you may want to specify a subject to your email . This can be done by adding a "?subject=message" to it.
Example: my.email@yahoo.com?subject=subscribe to my newsletter Result: my.email@yahoo.com (click on the email to see the title result in the email)
Place the link on a button
In addition to the previous procedure, you may prefer to use a graphical button instead of just a simple text link. In such case, select the option Place the link on a button. A Link Button editor appears where can select a button style as well as the name that will appear on this button. You can modify, create and save your own buttons to this list of presets from the Customize tab. By doing this, you will be able to reuse your own buttons wherever you need in other paragraphs and topics.
Note: If you place a link on a button, the title of the link you specified will become the tooltip text displayed when the mouse stops over the button.
Place a link inside a paragraph
TOWeb detects both email and web site addresses you enter inside your text and automatically convert them into links on your web pages. In addition to this but also to the creation of a normal link previously presented, you can use double brackets [[..]] around your text to create a link as explained below :
If you want the name of your topic to become a link inside your text, add double brackets around its name [[..]]. For instance let's suppose you have a topic named My Album and a sentence like the following one "You can visit my album available on this website". If you want the text "my album" to link to this topic, just add double brackets like this :
"You can visit [[my album]] available on this website".
If you need to specify a different name for your link, use double brackets but with the | separator between your link and its name. In the same previous example, instead of having a link on the text my album if you prefer to have all my pictures you should type :
"You can visit [[my album|all my pictures]] available on this website".

Place a link pointing to a paragraph
1) to add a link pointing directly to a topic paragraph (and not just to the beginning of the page) you have to first add a bookmark inside the paragraph's title.
A bookmark is :
- a word containing only letter and numerical characters (no accent, no space and no symbol),
- preceded and followed by two "#" signs (example: ##bookmark##),
- always starting the paragraph's title.
If the title of your paragraph is for instance "Demonstration" and if you want to add a bookmark called "demo" to this paragraph, you will have to add it at the beginning of the title as follow:
If your paragraph does not have any title (or if you have unchecked the title's box), you can still add a bookmark that will be used to point to this paragraph.
2) Once your bookmark has been added, you will be able to create a direct link to this paragraph:
- either by adding a link to the topic and then by selecting the bookmark's name (recommended method)
- or by adding a "#" sign followed by the bookmark's name in the web page's address. For example, if your bookmark "demo" is located in a topic called "info", then you will have to indicate: [[../info/index.html#demo|Demonstration]]

How to notify my contacts with TOWeb ? |
You can create a list of contacts in TOWeb with their email addresses in order to inform that your new website is now online after you just published it.
You can import contacts from your Windows Address Book but it's not currently possible to import contacts from other software. If you are in that case, you will need to enter them one by one into the TOWeb contact list.
Before you send your email we recommend the use of the BBC option if you don't want everyone to see each others email address or don't want one of your contacts to reply to everyone instead of just you.
To send your email TOWeb uses the email system installed on computer. If you encounter issues in notifying your contacts, please verify that the email software you are using is the one set by default on your computer and that you have default email account defined on it. For more information refer to the documentation of your email software. |

How is working the web page protection ? |
You can restrict the access to your topics with a password. From the Internet version of your website this password will only need to be entered once every hour, this in order to facilitate the website navigation of your visitors.
Locally on your machine when you preview your website, the password behavior is slightly different in order to allow you to test but also easily maintain your site : if you edit the content of a protected topic and start a preview you will not be prompted to enter a password, otherwise you will systematically have to enter it.
And if you host providers accepts the .htaccess file you may create user account with their own passwords in order to have a stronger protection. If you don't know yet if .htaccess files are authorized on your web space, please contact your host provider to determine if you can use this service. |

How to a background music on my website ? |
If you want to play a background music when visiting your entire website or just when visiting a topic (like a photo album for instance) you need to go the Topics step and click on the Background music. Then select the play mode, your music file and the on/off music buttons.
Our advice : Many web users may not necessarily appreciate websites that automatically play a music on their computer, especially if they are already listening to their music or if they left the volume of their speakers to a high level. Furthermore, depending on the size of your music file and the speed of your visitors' internet connection, this may slow down the first visit on your website and people may just give up before to see anything of your website. Therefore and in order to satisfy the maximum of visitors we recommend not using this feature on professional website. |

How to quickly create Data or Identification Sheets ?
Whatever the subject of your topic, it is often useful to present your information as data or identification sheet with an image, a description and a list of details. This can easily be done with only one paragraph in TOWeb. First add your picture and enter your description. Then select the option Add an enumeration list and follow the instructions to enter your list of characteristics. Click back to the Title, text and Image tab to select the layout you would like to have from the list Paragraph layout and preview your website with the Build and preview button (or the F12 key). Depending on the amount of information you have entered, you might decide to try other layouts or reduce the size of your picture. If your image appears to be too big in your page, just click on the Size & Border and select a different size. In that case you may also want to activate the option enable zoom on image click in order for your visitors to access to a larger picture.

How to place my picture into a frame ? |
A quick way to change your picture frame is to use the Size & Frame link located next to your picture and select a frame in the dropdown list. But you may obtain the same result with the link Edit by selecting the Add a frame tab. The advantage of this second method is that you can directly preview the result with your picture as well as enhance your picture with other graphical effects.
Note : if your picture is part of an album or a catalog and want to apply the same frame to all your other pictures, check this option prior to validate your changes. |

The quality of my picture is really low, why ? |
| All pictures you use in your website are copied and converted to a Web size format with a compression rate guaranteeing the best compromise between picture quality and file size. Nevertheless, you may want to increase the quality of your pictures (or decrease it to save space). To do this, click on the Size & Frame link and selection the Output quality you want from the dropdown list. Beware that the higher is your picture quality, the bigger will be its file size. As a result, increasing the quality of many pictures will dramatically increase the size of your website but will also slow down the web page download for all your visitors. |
