Export your website to a local drive or DVD-CD

You want to keep a demo of your site running on an external medium such as a USB key or DVD-CD? Or need to make a local copy of your site on an intranet or on a web server installed on your computer? If so then use the "Export" of TOWeb and follow our tips below.

How to export my website ?

Use the "Browse" button to select the destination location where to copy your website site files. All your web pages will then be exported to this drive or destination directory without prior alterations, so make sure your destination location is the one expected and eventually create this directory or cleaned it before to use the export feature.
Depending on your needs you have the choice between two export options:
  1. export a fully working version of your site: this option generates a version of your site that is exactly identical to the one published by TOWeb. Use this option if you do not want TOWeb to uploading your site but prefer to do it yourself with your FTP tools or if your computer is your web server
  2. export a local preview of your site: this option generates a preview version of your site that can be seen locally on a computer and work in demonstration mode. This can be useful if you have not published yet your site but want to show to others a preview of your future website.
Your disk or destination directory should be writable from Windows. If this is not the case (for a CD-ROM for example) you must do this in two stages : first export your site to any directory on your hard drive and then make a copy of it to your destination drive by using the appropriate software (eg software to burn for a CD-ROM or DVD).

Is it possible to continue to update my site with an exported website  ?

NO ! In order to manage and update your site you must have all data information of your website to build it but can restart from the export result files. Export your site is just make a copy of the results generated by TOWeb without any data to rebuild or restore to date.
If you lost your website data (eg a crash disk) you will need restore a website backup. Therefore it's important to make regular backups of your site using the TOWeb backup feature located in TOWeb Start step.
