If TOWeb doesn't  seem to work properly...

If TOWeb doesn't seem to work correctly please verify our following advice.

TOWeb doesn't start, what should I do ?

Configuration check list

  • Make sure first to download the latest update of TOWeb.
  • If TOWeb still doesn't start this is generally due to a firewall security option or software installed on your computer (Norton, Kaspersky, ...). You may try to temporary deactivate your security protection to determine which ones are prevented TOWeb to run correctly on your machine. For more information read the documentation of your security protection to find out how to reset the default options and manually add TOWeb to the lists of exceptions.
  • Use the Windows update to download and install the latest updates available for your Windows version.

Issues related to Windows Vista

  • Right-click on your "Computer" icon located on your desktop and select the "Advance system settings", then click on the "Performance settings" and select the data prevention option in order to add TOWeb V2 (TOWeb.exe) to the list.
  • Make sure TOWeb is running with correct access rights. Make a right-click on the TOWeb icon located in your Windows Desktop an from the menu select "Run as administrator"
  • Verify that you turned off the user account control (UAC) from the control panel.
  • If you use Windows Vista verify that you haven't deactivated the DEP protection as this might prevent some application to run correctly. If this is the case then restore your Windows security settings to the default ones.

My website name is www.mywebsite.com but the address www.mywebsite.com/topic/index.html is displayed, why ?

Each topic of your website is stored into a specific directory on your webspace and this TOWeb way of working can't be changed. The full path name of you web page is http://www.mywebsite.com/topic/index.html and what you may want to do is to rename the default names of your topic directory by giving them a more appropriated name like for instance by replacing "topic" with "home" for your website home page. To do this you need to click on the button named "Modify the directory and index file name of this topic".
And if you don't want any topic path to appear at all when visiting your website then you may use the following tip : select your homepage topic and from the "background music" tab simply check the option named "play a unique music for the entire website" without selecting any music. This way your website address will always stay http://www.mywebsite.com/ and the paths of your topics will no longer be displayed.

My antivirus has detected a virus in a TOWeb file, what should I do ?

If your antivirus detects a virus in the file "site.xml then it's likely to be a script that you added to your website. The "site.xml" file contains global data of your website and especially the HTML scripts you added and one of them is probably a virus or spyware source code. Be careful on the scripts you use for your website (particularly if they are free) and if you have any doubt about some scripts you use, try to delete them from TOWeb before to check with your antivirus that everything is now normal.

Otherwise, if a virus has been detected in another file than the "site.xml" file (like for instance the TOWeb.exe program file) then it either one the two following cases :
  • you antivirus is making a mistake : antivirus use "heuristic" methods to identify a virus in a file and it may happen that such methods detect some "false positive" that's to say viruses where there are none,
  • you antivirus is correct and then the virus was present on your computer before you installed and used TOWeb. If such a case you need to permanently remove all viruses from your computer, before to uninstall and reinstall TOWeb by downloading it from our website.
