TOWeb doesn't start, what should I do ? |
If TOWeb doesn't seem to work correctly please verify our following advice.
Configuration check list
- Make sure first to download the latest update of TOWeb and if your installation is corrupted then delete the temporary internet files of your web browser before to download it again and proceed to the installation
- If TOWeb still doesn't start this is generally due to a firewall security option or software installed on your computer (Norton, Kaspersky, ...). You may try to temporary deactivate your security protection to determine which ones are prevented TOWeb to run correctly on your machine. For more information read the documentation of your security protection to find out how to reset the default options and manually add TOWeb to the lists of exceptions. The "TOWeb.exe" file to manually add and authorize on your computer is located in "C:\Program Files\Lauyan\TOWeb V4".
- Use the Windows update to download and install the latest updates available for your Windows version.
Issues related to Windows Vista & Windows 7
- Right-click on your Computer icon located on your desktop (or accessible in a Windows Explorer window) and select the Advance system settings", then click on the "Performance settings" and select the data prevention option for Windows' programs and services only
- Make sure TOWeb is running with correct access rights. Make a right-click on the TOWeb icon located in your Windows Desktop an from the menu select "Run as administrator"
- Verify that you turned off the user account control (UAC) from the control panel.

I can't add any images to my website, why ? |
If you are no longer able to add an image to a paragraphs then :
- your image may be damaged or have a file format error. If the problem recurs systematically with the same image using a photo editing tool to the save it again to a valid format or different format
- temporary files may be damaged on your computer. To check and fix you need search for all your computer of all files named lythumbs.db on your computer (including any other hard drive like D: on your computer) and delete them. Then also delete files named mrudirs.dat and treedirs.dat located in C:\Program Files\Lauyan\TOWeb V4\ (or in C:\ProgramData\Lauyan\TOWeb V4\ if you use Windows Vista/Seven). Once all these files deleted, restart TOWeb and click on the button "Browse" to select and add your images
- the issue may be due to the use of antivirus "Avira Antivir" which can cause problems in the system directories and may affect some Windows applications and some operations such as TOWeb inserting images as well as moving file location to the root directory of drive C:. If you encounter any problem and use this antivirus you should uninstall it and prefer to use another antivirus that will not affect your system such as for instance the Microsoft antivirus (free) named : Microsoft Security Essential

My website name is www.mywebsite.com but the address www.mywebsite.com/topic/index.html is displayed, why ? |
Each topic of your website is stored into a specific directory on your webspace and this TOWeb way of working can't be changed. The full path name of you web page is http://www.mywebsite.com/topic/index.html and what you may want to do is to rename the default names of your topic directory by giving them a more appropriated name like for instance by replacing "topic" with "home" for your website home page. To do this you need to click on the button named "Modify the directory and index file name of this topic". And if you don't want any topic path to appear at all when visiting your website then you may use the following tip : select your homepage topic and from the "background music" tab simply check the option named "play a unique music for the entire website" without selecting any music. This way your website address will always stay http://www.mywebsite.com/ and the paths of your topics will no longer be displayed. |

The preview of the my website does not work correctly, why ? |
| You currently do not have any web browser associated by default on your Windows system to preview your website. To fix this problem, open a Windows Explorer and from the menu “Tools\Folder options...” click on the tab named “File types” in the folder options dialog. Then select the HTML extension in the list and change the associated program to your web browser from the “Change” button. |

My site has disappeared and TOWeb suggests I create a new one, why? |
TOWeb stores all necessary data to create your sites in the "My Documents" directory of the current Windows user. If at the start of TOWeb you can not find your sites and/or if TOWeb starts by asking you to create a new site then it can come from any of the following causes :
- You have changed your computer. In this case it is normal that you can not find data from your sites as they are in the folder "My Documents" of your old computer. To have them back present on your new computer you need a backup and follow the restore procedure.
- You are logged on Windows under a different user account than the one you used when you created your site. As the "My Documents" directory is personal to each Windows user account you must log into Windows using your previous user account to have access to your data.
- A security software (like an Antivirus for example) may no longer allow TOWeb the access to folder "My Documents". Such a case was discovered for instance in 2011 and was due to a bug in the antivirus Avira Antivir. From version 3.15, TOWeb should normally detect and notify you about such a problem at startup. In such a situation check your security software (including Anti-Virus) installed on your computer to identify the third party software causing this problem, disable your security software one by one and restart TOWeb each time to see when it works. Eventually you may also try to uninstall your antivirus. If by uninstalling your antivirus TOWeb works then we recommend you consult its documentation or contact its technical support contact before reinstalling your antivirus or you may want to use another antivirus that will not affect the proper functioning of your system/applications such as for instance the free antivirus software of Microsoft (Microsoft Security Essential).
- You or any third party software have changed the location of the "My Documents" directory. Again security software may be involved, so check out this point by following the above procedure (disabling software one by one until you identify the one that caused this).
As a last resort, if none of the solutions proposed above does not work, open a Windows file explorer to search for multiples "TOWeb Sites" directories on your hard drive. And if you find the old one, then transfer its content to your current "My Documents\Sites TOWeb" directory. You can also restore a backup of your site from step "Start> Restore" of TOWeb. |

My antivirus has detected a virus in a TOWeb file, what should I do ? |
If your antivirus detects a virus in the file "site.xml then it's likely to be a script that you added to your website. The "site.xml" file contains global data of your website and especially the HTML scripts you added and one of them is probably a virus or spyware source code. Be careful on the scripts you use for your website (particularly if they are free) and if you have any doubt about some scripts you use, try to delete them from TOWeb before to check with your antivirus that everything is now normal.
Otherwise, if a virus has been detected in another file than the "site.xml" file (like for instance the TOWeb.exe program file) then it either one the two following cases :
- you antivirus is making a mistake : antivirus use "heuristic" methods to identify a virus in a file and it may happen that such methods detect some "false positive" that's to say viruses where there are none,
- you antivirus is correct and then the virus was present on your computer before you installed and used TOWeb. If such a case you need to permanently remove all viruses from your computer, before to uninstall and reinstall TOWeb by downloading it from our website.

Other issues... |
Most common malfunctioning cases (publishing, file creation, ...) are related to Internet security system installed on your computer. This can occur at different levels and occurs especially after installing an update TOWeb if this update was not detected by your system. If this happens it can cause one or more of the following: - prevent startup TOWeb
- fully block the connection at step 2 / 3 of the setup wizard hosting
- cause disconnection and prevent publication of your site
- stop the functioning of the contact form or block the preview in your web browser
To ensure that TOWeb is well recognized again and (re) authorized on your computer you should: - close TOWeb
- reset the settings on your Windows firewall and other protection system (Norton, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm, etc.) by referring to their documentation
- manually add new TOWeb to the list of authorized software. The file you need to authorize is TOWeb.exe located in your C:\Program Files\Lauyan\TOWeb Vx (where x is your TOWeb version number)
- and then reboot your computer before to restart TOWeb
Finally, if you use Avira Antivir and can not open your website then please check our advice located in section named "I can't add any images to my website, why ?" of this page. And if you encounter other problems as those described or still have the issue then use the TOWeb support form to try find the answer in our online help and forum or to join our technical support service thru the contact form.
